When did you first open?
We had our Grand Opening Party in July 2018.
Where are you guys?
The Fairview/Acadia area of Calgary. Southside! Just south of the Glenmore overpass. We realize that we can be a little tricky to find—we’re in the back of an industrial park. More detailed instructions can be found here.
What’s up with your name?
It’s a reference to our favourite Pantera song. You know “A NEW LEVEL OF CONFIDENCE AND POWWEEERR!!!”. Not familiar? Oh. Well, check it out sometime… Our name, New Level, is also an ethos: our company is committed to pushing style boundaries, creating new, bold flavour profiles and striving for the highest standards of quality.
What sort of beer do you guys make?
Check out a description of our core beers here. More generally, we describe our approach to brewing as “Progressive North American”: take an existing style and make it a little weirder. New Level isn’t committed to any set of guidelines or rules when it comes to creating beers; i.e., we aren’t worried about making our beers fit into a particular box. Nothing is off limits. Not even mint Girl Guide Cookies. “If It Tastes Good, Brew it.”—That’s how we roll.
Do you only play metal in your taproom?
Pretty much. We also play punk, hardcore, goth stuff, and progressive 70s rock. It depends whose working really, but we try to keep it interesting and a little different from what you might hear elsewhere. If you’d like to listen to something in particular, just ask at the bar.
Do you allow children?
Absolutely. We have snacks and non-alcoholic drinks for kids. There’s even a “Heavy Metal Colouring Station”, so the little ones can colour pictures of Pantera, Black Sabbath etc. Start em’ young. Just be warned that some of the music we play has 4 letter words.
Do you serve food?
We have some light bar snacks, but no kitchen. Instead, we try to support local restaurants by encouraging customers to order in. We’re more than happy to use our Skip the Dishes account to bring in whatever you’d like. With enough notice, we will even arrange for catering.
Do you allow private parties?
All the time. Send Drew an email for bookings.
I hate metal. Can I still like your beer?
